The Need

There are over 10,000 men, women, and children experiencing homelessness and poverty and in our nation’s capital, which is directly affecting mental health. Nearly one in five DC residents in wards 6,7,&8 lives at or below the poverty line, struggling to meet even their basic needs. Poverty is one of the most significant social determinants of health and mental health, intersecting with all other determinants, including education, community conditions, race/ethnicity, gender, immigration status, health/access to health care, and neighborhood factors. The mental health effects of poverty are wide ranging and reach across the lifespan. Poverty leads to mental health and developmental problems that in turn prevent individuals and families from leaving poverty, creating a vicious, intergenerational cycle of poverty and poor health.

Our Mission

Thinkin’ Klearly is a community-based organization committed to encouraging individuals and families of all identities to improve their overall quality of life by raising mental health awareness and providing support to the community. We meet the needs of the people we serve with food, clothing, and creating safe spaces for people to come and be themselves. Each day, Thinking’ Klearly is restoring hope and dignity one person at a time. We invite you to join us on our mission.
